Ribbon Embroidery

Saturday, June 13. 2015
10:30 am - 2:30 pm

Beautiful ribbons! Shiny or matte, textured or silky, who doesn’t love the beauty of ribbons and the wonderful look of ribbon embroidery? If you’ve ever wanted to learn this elegant skill, now is your chance!

SITU is pleased to announce this introductory "skill building" course on Ribbon Embroidery with our own Bobbi Chase. Bobbi is a renowned embroiderer and instructor, and SITU Member.  She’ll introduce us to the tools, materials, and possibilities of Ribbon Embroidery!   Learn the right materials (with the right tools) and correct technique to assure success.  We’ll learn the stitches - including straight stitch, Japanese ribbon stitch, French knots, and some surprises.  Bobbi will show you how to make a Perfect Bow (of the smallest size), and a variety of flower formations.  We’ll explore a variety of stitches and techniques.

Materials will be provided as a kit, and we will work our "learning" on a practice fabric. Ribbon embroidery is one of the most gratifying of needlework -- there is a lot of "result" for minimum of work.  And the dyed silk colors are beautiful!  Ribbon Embroidery can be used for small touches on collars, cuffs, or pockets, covered buttons, lapels, sachets, reticules, pincushions. …just to name a few. This is such a creative group, I can only imagine what YOU will dream up!

Class-kit includes:

Silk ribbons in 2mm, 4mm & 7mm widths

Student provides: 6" Hoop (to hold fabric taut)
Small scissors (to clip ribbon & threads)
Pencil & paper for notes
Pincushion (to hold thread needles which
                     will be provided by teacher.)
