When cold winds of fall blow, it’s time to head south to the warmer climes of Havana. Feel the hot Caribbean beat. Sip a Cuba Libre or Daiquiri while you relax in your tropical shirt and imagine those poor saps that don’t have your sense of style. Join fellow ex-pat Hemingway in 1950’s Cuba, where he fishes for the big Marlin and writes searing stories that capture this tropical escape. It’s an ‘anything goes’ lifestyle that attracts artists and musicians from all over. Fancy yourself a writer? Here’s a friendly audience. Maybe a prize will come your way. You might have to keep your eyes open and your head down though if Meyer Lansky or Lucky Luciano comes by. They might be doing deals to avoid the scrutiny of the Feds. There aren’t many rules in Cuba and what there are can be broken with the right bribe or story or looks. The cooks will prepare some wonderful treats for your pleasure. You’ll have three entrees to choose from, such as Jerk Chicken Pasta, Grilled Fish of the Day, or Shrimp Creole Rice Bowl. Desserts might include Chocolate Island, Dulce de Leche Cheesecake or Key Lime pie. Coffee, soda and tea are included. If you want something stronger, that is available via no-host bar. Get out your 1940’s-1950’s dress—tropical, floral, linen, khaki---Panama hats and turbans. Think of Rita Hayworth and Dorothy Lamour. Life is easy, the weather is hot, the food is exotic and the music is irresistible. It’s a wild time in Cuba—there aren’t many rules. There is a feeling that the wild ways won’t last.
